The National Aquatics Center in Beijing launched an exhibition on Aug. 29 to showcase its dual-Olympic legacy and offer visitors a glimpse of the venue's deep involvement in the 2008 Summer and 2022 Winter Games.
Centering on architecture, technologies, the dual-Olympic spirit, and Chinese culture, some 400 exhibits concerning the venue's architectural design, scientific research, and design for the Games will be on display virtually and in-person for free for the next six months.
To enhance people's visiting experience, an intelligent photo-sharing system has been introduced at the physical exhibition booths. Meanwhile, technologies such as 360-degree virtual reality (VR) tours have been applied to increase interaction with online visitors.
Through the exhibition, visitors can learn about the dual-Olympic venue's building structure, water treatment procedures, and ice-making techniques, discover fun facts about Olympic events, and get to know more about the venue's water-ice conversion systems.
"The venue and this exhibition have brought us closer to Olympic Games," one visitor said on Wednesday.
Moreover, the National Aquatics Center curatorial team plans to launch a themed event, "Discovering the Water Cube," featuring stories about exhibits and people and creating brand new WeChat content. In the meantime, the venue will feature more exhibits, such as one about curling equipment, and develop more cultural and creative products.
